According to the Oxford Academic study, at the point of 2011, the male fertility was lower by half compared to the 1970s results. The statistics have become even worse since 2017. Why? The UK scientific community still can’t state a clear explanation due to the lack of research.
The other important aspect of the problem, is lack of understanding that unlike common belief, fertility problems are 30% likely to be caused by men - the same chance as with women. The remaining 30-40% of cases are cases by both sexes, or by unknown reasons.
Currently, most men aren't aware of this fact and, thus, don’t seek medical attention. That’s where Mojo comes into play. Mojo is a company that improves the approach to fertility care globally by providing the world's first robotic and AI-based semen analysis. They help men think about their fertility proactively and expand their family-building potential.
Mojo approached Apptension with the request to build a website that will help to communicate with customers, organize the delivery from and to the laboratory, and provide the results. Another critical aspect of the website was selling the kits for testing samples at home and scheduling consultations with clients, both regional-based.
We planned to build a website as an online web store that was able to support a variety of features on the backend, including a marketing and sales tool, logistics system, namely transporting the kits to customers and back without having any problems. The next step is providing the diagnostic, a semen analysis, as well as consulting them on a medical level. It's turned out to be a really big project, wrapping all those functions into just one pretty and functional website.
To accomplish the plan, we picked a team consisting of:
The online store was created with Shopify on the front end (with a Liquid templating system) and Node.js on the back end. What is more, the backend implements integration with two courier services (Bring in Sweden, CitySprint in the United Kingdom).
With the final results, Mojo was able to expand its service from Stockholm to London, where they're currently operating now. The web store is up and running, helping thousands of men to test the quality of their DNA material and preparing for fatherhood more responsibly.
